ICQ still remained relatively popular, but they really sat on their asses over there. Meanwhile, AIM was updated with new features frequently and marketed heavily. ICQ had more features and more users, but it was just easier for a lot of them to use AIM so they could chat with their dopey friends who were still using AOL. Sometimes, you'd sit there in pending approval purgatory wondering if you added the right person with those crazy user id's. Plus, on ICQ you had to receive approval from a user to add them to your buddy list and on AIM you could just add people. It was a total pain in the ass when you wanted to add people to your friend list. ICQ was cool because you could use any name you wanted but the actual user id was an 8 or 9 digit number (mine was 36915037- not sure why I remember that). The cool kids were on ICQ and I think there were very few AOL users willing or able to use a separate chat client.Īnyway, AOL eventually opened up AIM to everyone and people started using it. If I remember correctly, AIM was an AOL subscription exclusive in the beginning so only the dopes on there were using it. Then I forgot wingate and bought sygate home nextwork, it worked fine, but there is no firewall, and the clients could not play online because norton internet security was blocking everything, so I disabled the firewall and it worked, but I must have a firewall, then I got the trial version of wingate 6.0.3 and I face the same problem that I had before, I was talking on xfire, and suddenly I got disconnected, I was playing online and suddenly I got disconnected (only me) and the most annoying problem: I tried to download 3Dmark 2005, I downloaded about 75mb and suddenly got the message: the configuration to the server had been reconfigured.I think it was a combination of things. but they can connect again but after certain amount of time they get disconnected again. Hi im new to this forum, I used wingate 5.0 before and it was great but it had a problem: when the clients are using the internet, playing games online, chat (icq) or even downloading something big, wingate closes their connection for an unkown reason.
